ACHEMA premiere: new "Master-TPA" hose series presented for the first time at the trade fair

Masterflex presents product innovation at ACHEMA. The new premium hose combines many properties of TPE hoses

Masterflex AG, Gelsenkirchen, May 11, 2009

At Achema in Frankfurt (May 11-15, 2009), Masterflex AG will be presenting a groundbreaking innovation from its in-house research and development department to its customers at its exhibition stand (Hall 8.0, Stand Q33-R36) starting today: The Master TPA hose series will be presented to interested trade visitors for the first time. Alfons Beitz, Sales Manager of Masterflex AG, explains: "Our new development Master-TPA is a real premium product. It opens up completely new sales markets, as it combines a large number of product properties that previously could only be offered by individual, very special types of material. What's more, these hoses are made from around 30 percent renewable raw materials, which ultimately benefits the environment."

At first glance, Master-TPA hoses are virtually indistinguishable from TPU hoses in purely visual terms. "Master-TPA should be seen as a supplement to, not a replacement for, other TPE hoses," says Beitz, explaining the field of application for the new innovation. "During product development, the focus was on implementing many properties in one product."

The key product properties here are:

  • very good chemical resistance
  • high low-temperature flexibility
  • good abrasion resistance
  • good UV, hydrolysis and microbe resistance.

In addition, Master TPA hoses are suitable for use with foodstuffs. Their wall material is approved for direct food contact according to Directive 2002/72/EU. Says Beitz, "We see this hose as an on-top alternative to products made of PU, fluoroplastics, PVC, rubber and caoutchouc."

Numerous other factors speak in favor of using Master TPA hoses: they are free of plasticizers and halogens, lighter than other thermoplastics, particularly flexible and capable of withstanding high dynamic loads. Under dynamic load, the degree of expansion and heating is very low, and Master TPA hoses thus achieve longer service lives than many other hose types. Due to the smallest bending radii and the largely smooth inner walls, the hoses can be optimally used - also from a fluidic point of view. Electrostatic charges can be dissipated by grounding the spiral in accordance with BGR 132.

Optimum complement to TPU hoses

Sales manager Beitz: "Admittedly, Master TPA hoses cost a little more than TPU hoses, for example, but in return they can be used multifunctionally." Beitz continues, "We are very pleased about this groundbreaking new development. It shows once again how important our research and fundamental work is. Masterflex AG from Gelsenkirchen is a specialist in sophisticated connection and hose systems made from innovative high-tech plastics, fabrics and films, and our customers rightly appreciate our top performance."

Raw material turnaround has arrived in the hose sector

The trend towards a raw material turnaround has already arrived in many industrial sectors; this also places new demands on manufacturers of technical hoses. The background to this development is not least the decreasing availability of fossil and mineral resources and the associated price increase for these raw materials.

"With the development of the Master TPA hoses, Masterflex AG as a hose manufacturer has taken a decisive step towards producing industrial products from renewable raw materials," says one of the project managers, Hans-Jürgen Günzing, explaining the research efforts of the Gelsenkirchen-based hose specialist.
