Double holds better - a world first on the hose market

Smooth is not smooth enough: A new process combines the positive properties of an extruded hose with the special properties of elastomers. With its new Master-PUR Inline hose range, Masterflex AG is now presenting the world's first seamless hoses at K 2007 from October 24 to 31.

The product impresses with its combination of maximum abrasion resistance with enormous wall thicknesses and amazing bending radii - a real competitor for the previously dominant heavy rubber hose.

Until now, anyone who spoke of smooth hoses meant extruded hoses that are helically wound and have a weld seam: due to their design, this weld seam is the weak point of conventional hose systems, because this is usually where the material being conveyed attacks. Now, however, plastics experts are opening a new chapter in hose production: For the first time, a unique patented process can be used to produce hose qualities with a previously unattained smoothness and variable wall thickness.

The idea for this process came from Gelsenkirchen-based Masterflex AG, which is also the world's only manufacturer. The company researches the wide range of possible applications for plastics, processing PUR in particular, and is an expert in high-tech polyurethane hose systems. With the inliner hose, the developers have achieved a special synergy effect between these two fields of expertise. During production, the individual high-tech components are fed into the hose: In the process, the components combine to form a solid material, an indissoluble unit. The whole becomes more than the sum of its parts: The clever combination of materials for the two components makes the one-piece hose suitable for a wide variety of applications.

High abrasion resistance, low wear:

Inline hose increases service life

The patented process has enormous potential. In the bulk materials industry, the innovative inliner is declaring war on heavy rubber hoses. The Master-PUR Inline 60/4 suction and transport hose is the first standard product on the market to be specially tailored to the needs of the bulk materials industry.

Until now, rubber hoses were among the most cost-effective and technically best solutions. However, the seamlessly smooth PUR Inline hose now sets new standards - in the field of plastic hoses, but especially in comparison with rubber hoses. The results suggest that the inline hose will last at least 5.5 times longer under comparable conditions than the best rubber hose tested in the company laboratory using the DIN 53516 method.

The new Master-PUR Inline is particularly suitable for high throughputs of extremely abrasive solids such as sand, gravel, cement, grain and granules, and for problematic applications such as glassworks, steel mills, stone bridges, shipyards or cement works. Theoretically, it would be sufficient to apply the inliner only to the heavily stressed areas of a hose - in the bends. Admittedly, this would not be economical for either the manufacturer or the customer - especially since suction or conveying hoses in particular are moved a lot.

Maximum variability:

From case to case, for all cases

Special hoses for other applications can be produced with pinpoint accuracy: due to the liquid starting materials, it is possible to add additional additives to the raw materials. This is much more cost-effective and easier to realize than with thermoplastics, which require masterbatch production or compounding. Hoses from the PUR Inline family of the future are plasticizer- and halogen-free, gas- and liquid-tight, and resist oil, gasoline, chemicals, microbes, UV radiation and ozone. Not all at once, but all at the right time. The highlight: outer wall and inner wall can be given completely different properties. The numerous combination possibilities will be of great benefit in many industries - such as the food industry.
