From renewable raw material to premium hose

The trend towards rethinking has already arrived in many industrial sectors. Masterflex AG, manufacturer of innovative technical hoses and connection systems, has also taken up this challenge and is producing its first hoses from partly renewable raw materials.

With the development of the Master-TPA hose series, Masterflex AG has taken a decisive step towards producing industrial products partly from renewable raw materials. Master-TPA hoses from Masterflex are true premium products in the industrial sector, as they also combine a wide range of product properties that previously could only be offered by individual, very specialized types of material. In addition, the hoses consist of around 30 percent renewable raw materials.

Optimal complement to TPU hoses

At first glance, Master TPA hoses are virtually indistinguishable from TPU hoses in purely visual terms. Nevertheless, they offer decisive differences. With the multitude of properties they combine, they present themselves as "green" all-rounders for the industry and thus complement the already diverse range of applications for TPE hoses. During product development, the focus was on implementing many properties in one product while at the same time taking environmental considerations into account.

Many properties that until now could only be offered by individual hose types are now combined in just one product. Master-TPA hoses are not only highly abrasion resistant; compared to commercially available polyurethane hoses, they also have, for example, very good chemical resistance, higher low-temperature flexibility, and good UV, hydrolysis and microbe resistance. In addition, they are also suitable for use with foodstuffs. Their wall material is approved for direct food contact in accordance with Directive 2002/72/EU.

Numerous other factors speak in favor of the increasing use of Master TPA hoses in the future: they are free of plasticizers and halogens, lighter than other thermoplastics, particularly flexible and capable of withstanding high dynamic loads. Under dynamic load, the degree of expansion and heating is very low, and Master TPA hoses thus achieve longer service lives than many other hose types. Due to the smallest bending radii and the largely smooth inner walls, the hoses can be optimally used - also from a fluidic point of view. Master TPA hoses can be used multifunctionally and are an ideal complement to TPU hoses, as they offer better chemical resistance.

Raw material turnaround has arrived in the hose sector

Renewable raw materials form a very important building block for a sustainable energy and raw material supply. The increased demand from industry for environmentally friendly and sustainable products was one of the reasons for the development of Masterflex AG's Master-TPA hose series. For two years now, the hoses, which are manufactured to around 30% on the basis of renewable raw materials, have successfully supplemented the product range of the research-strong international company. "In the future, more and more attention will be focused on the production of hoses from renewable raw materials," says Alfons Beitz, Sales Manager at Masterflex AG in Gelsenkirchen. "We looked around the raw materials market and found suitable material compositions to also produce such hoses with a high quality standard. The top priority for us was not only to produce high-quality hoses with a new range of applications, but at the same time a long-term supply of these new types of materials had to be ensured."

Increased environmental awareness in industry is ensuring that a certain rethinking process is taking place - which is why environmentally friendly products are also more in demand than ever there.
