Masterflex AG at the Hannover Messe and Achema: saving costs with new connection systems

Masterflex presents product innovations from the past twelve months at Hannover Messe and ACHEMA

Masterflex AG, Gelsenkirchen. March 2009

"The whole variety of innovative technologies under one roof" is the slogan used to advertise the Hannover Messe. "And where innovations are concerned, Masterflex AG, as a specialist for sophisticated connection and hose systems made of innovative high-tech plastics, fabrics and films, naturally cannot be missing," says Sales Manager Alfons Beitz. "We focus strongly on the issue of cost savings and now offer our customers new types of connection systems that allow them to easily combine and reuse standard connection elements." Incidentally, Masterflex is now exhibiting at Hannover Messe for the 19th time without interruption. Masterflex will also be taking part in the 29th Achema, which focuses on problem solutions for all areas of process technology. Beitz: "With our new developments, we are demonstrating innovative strength and dynamism in hose solutions for a wide range of industries at these two important leading trade fairs."
At the Hannover Messe from April 20 to 24, 2009, one of the world's most important technology events, Masterflex will be presenting its entire range of products and services and showcasing its new products from the past twelve months. At the 40-square-meter booth (Hall 5, Booth A32), trade show visitors will find, among other things:

  • the Master-PUR series
  • the Master-Clip series
  • suction and transport hoses made of food-grade polyurethane (PU), improved more flexible polyolefin (PO) hoses, and cast-on and swaged hose connection systems with certified suitability for direct contact with foodstuffs
  • the new chemical hose type Master-Clip TEFLON® EL for ATEX applications
  • Innovative connection and joining systems, such as the new clamping shell systems and molded-on connection systems for almost all Master-PUR hose types

Simplicity that pays off: the new connection system for all commercially available connecting elements
The clamping shell system newly developed by Masterflex AG can be used for a large number of spiral hoses from the Masterflex AG hose range and enables simple, fast and uncomplicated assembly of the hoses. Numerous standard industry and commercial connecting elements can continue to be used without any problems. This saves the hose user immediate costs. The most common hose coupling types such as Kamlok, Storz, TW, but also customer-specific coupling types, can be easily connected by simply screwing them on. In addition, hose couplings with these connection geometries can also be directly integrated. Due to the immense variety and availability as well as the high quality standard and performance, this new type of connection system has what it takes to become a trendsetter in the field of handling and conveying technology.
The product advantages of the new clamping shell system at a glance:

  • The customer continues to use his own hose spigots with a standard or very special connection geometry.
  • The customer receives a hose tailored to his needs and connection dimensions to match the hose nozzle.
  • The customer receives a PU hose sleeve to match the hose, which creates a tight connection between the hose and coupling.
  • Depending on the outer diameter of the hose collar, the customer can continue to use his own binding systems or obtain a commercially available binding system from Masterflex.

In particular, Master-PUR inline hoses made of abrasion-resistant polyurethane (PUR for short) combine enormous wall thicknesses (up to 10 mm) and low weight with amazing bending radii. Thanks to a special, patented manufacturing process, Masterflex is the first manufacturer to be able to produce profile-extruded hoses without internal weld seams and corrugation troughs. This makes them absolutely smooth on the inside and particularly suitable for high throughputs of extremely abrasive solids such as gravel, cement or cullet. There, they achieve unique service lives.

Innovations at Achema: special products for the process industry
At the 29th Achema, the International Exhibition-Congress on Chemical Engineering, Environmental Protection and Biotechnology from May 11 to 15, 2009 in Frankfurt am Main, Masterflex will be presenting itself for the first time together with Rala GmbH & Co. KG from Ludwigshafen (Hall 8.0, Stand Q33-R36), a customer with whom Masterflex has enjoyed many years of successful cooperation. Rala serves industry, trade and municipalities with technical articles made of rubber and plastic, as well as with work protection from head to toe.
In addition to the Master-PUR and Master Clip series and the new connection systems, the exhibition program includes specially developed suction and blower hoses for aggressive media. Particularly in the chemical, paint, wood and paper and pharmaceutical industries, special requirements are placed on the hoses used. For example, many standard materials can no longer be used for the suction of highly aggressive solvents. Masterflex manufactures suction hoses with the highest chemical resistance, some of which are also electrically conductive (RO≤ 106 Ohm) or temperature resistant (up to +400 °C). Of course, Masterflex always supplies the matching connection system for all hoses for time-saving assembly.

Safe extraction of aggressive gases with conductive chemical hoses
The extraction of highly aggressive gaseous media is a priority in the chemical industry. This does not only mean media that attack the material of the hose, but also explosive gases, vapors, paint mist or solvents. The special hose type Master-Clip TEFLON® EL was designed to complement the proven chemical hose types for this area of application. The "EL" designates a special property of this hose: it is particularly suitable for use in hazardous areas where electrical conductivity or surface resistance < 106 Ohm is required in accordance with ATEX.

Chemically resistant Master-Clip hoses with Clip-Grip bridge clamps
The adhesive-free and seamless clamping profile design of the Master-Clip series offers hose technology with the widest possible range of applications. By means of an external clamping profile, the materials used are manufactured into hoses with high tensile strength. This process enables special fabrics to be processed into high-temperature suction and blower hoses suitable for temperatures of up to +1,100 °C. But also used as air-conditioning and ventilation hoses, the Master-Clip series is durable and reasonably priced.
The simplest way to attach Master-Clip hoses to connection spigots in a tension-proof and leak-proof manner is to use the Clip-Grip bridge clamps. Both the clamps and the external clamping profiles are available in galvanized design (standard design) or alternatively in stainless steel design.
Master-Clip high-temperature hoses offer high chemical resistance and are suitable for operating temperatures up to +1,100°C. The outstanding product characteristics of the hoses include

  • high flexibility and compressibility of up to 1:6
  • very small bending radii
  • variable customer-oriented manufacturing options (multilayer or thermally/insulated special hose constructions)
  • the hoses are available from DN 38 up to even DN 2000

Special hoses for the food and pharmaceutical industries
Masterflex offers solutions for hygienic food conveying and pharmaceutical conveying with its Master-PUR Food, Master-PO Food and Master-SIL Food special hoses. They are made of abrasion-resistant polyurethane, polyolefin or silicone and are equipped with an integrated stainless steel spiral. These special hoses meet even the strictest food regulations, which of course also applies to the associated hose connection systems.
Masterflex Food hoses have excellent abrasion resistance, temperature resistance in a range from -60 °C to +200 °C (up to +230 °C for short periods), are odorless and tasteless, as well as lightweight and very flexible. Electrostatic charges can be dissipated by grounding the support spiral on both sides. The hoses are available in standard sizes from DN 13 to DN 200, in production lengths of up to ten meters; special lengths are available on request.

TEFLON® is a registered trade name of DuPont Dow Elastomers.
