Gelsenkirchen, November 24, 2005. SDAX-listed Masterflex AG (ISIN DE0005492938), a technology leader in the processing of specialty plastics, is supplying the world's first fuel cell-powered bicycle fleet to the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Herten. This means that the fuel cell bicycle prototype, which was first presented to the public in 2004, has been developed to production readiness within a year.
Among other things, the fuel cell bicycles will be integrated into the overall tourism concept of the district of Recklinghausen and Ruhr-Touristik GmbH. For example, organized day tours for tourists in the Ruhr region are to be offered as early as the 2006 soccer World Cup.
Hydrogen supply and services are assured, as fleets of ten or more bicycles will initially be supplied to municipal and commercial users. In cooperation with a manufacturer of hydrogen storage systems, a solution was developed here that enables a simple and safe hydrogen supply for the user.
Municipal and commercial users interested in purchasing bicycle fleets can contact Stefan Schulte, Masterflex Fuel Cell Technology, with immediate effect.
