NRW Minister Horstmann visits Masterflex AG at the Hanover Fair
Gelsenkirchen, April 18, 2005. During his visit to the Hanover Fair, NRW Minister of Transport and Energy Axel Horstmann also learned about the Cargobike, the latest development from Masterflex AG.
The Cargobike is being developed in cooperation with Berlin-based Hawk Bikes E&M GmbH, a successful developer of specialized and individual bicycle solutions.
The three-wheeled Cargobike is a bicycle for transporting smaller loads with Masterflex fuel cells and an innovative drive concept. The rider has to pedal himself, but is assisted by an electric motor. Compared to conventional bicycles, the Cargobike will no longer have a chain for power transmission. The maintenance-prone chain with associated gears will be completely replaced by an electric transmission.
The vehicle will also be equipped with a 250-watt fuel cell system and will be one of the first vehicles to use 70 MPa (mega Pascal) hydrogen cartridges. The joint project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
