Gelsenkirchen August 24, 2006 As part of his Ruhr tour, Minister President Jürgen Rüttgers visited Gelsenkirchen and Masterflex AG on August 24, 2006. The purpose of the visit to several municipalities in the Ruhr region is to give Rüttgers as precise and comprehensive a picture as possible of the opportunities and problems facing the region. In the process, the Minister President is sounding out the focal points for the state government's "Initiative Zukunft Ruhr" (Future Ruhr Initiative).
At Masterflex AG, Rüttgers learned about the core business field of high-tech hose systems, whose main production site is Gelsenkirchen. As an avid cyclist, the Minister President then convinced himself that sport and convenience are not mutually exclusive when riding Masterflex AG's innovative electric bicycles with fuel cell drive. His conclusion after the short test: "I am thrilled. I could really use a bike like this for my next NRW tour through the Sauerland region." However, the innovative bikes will initially only be used by commercial and municipal customers because a hydrogen infrastructure can be provided there. Private customers will have to wait a few more years.
