We at Masterflex recognized this early on and are continuously transforming our business towards a circular economy as part of our Hero@Zero corporate strategy.
Together we can and want to achieve a great deal!
As a leading manufacturer of plastic hoses and connection systems, we have recognized the challenges posed by the materials we use and their impact on the environment. We therefore anchored the topic of sustainability in our corporate strategy at an early stage(Hero@Zero).
Our goal is to gradually reorganize our entire product and consulting business by 2035 - towards a circular economy and expanded to include services such as take-back, recycling and eco-certification.
We have already developed C2C-capable models for various production technologies, such as extruded spiral and smooth tubing, and are testing these with our customers. You too can benefit from our lead in the circular economy!
With AMPIUS®, we offer our customers and partners a digital platform that enables a comprehensive and consistent entry into the circular economy. We are also proud of what is probably the world's first cradle-to-cradle-capable spiral hose from Masterflex.
The need for real innovation has never been greater. We can develop high-quality, healthy and circular alternatives that are beneficial for people and nature. A positive future is possible! Let's get started!
Michael Braungart, Managing Director BRAUNGART EPEA - Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH, Hamburg
As part of our Group strategy Hero@Zero, we cooperate with Braungart EPEA- Internationale Umweltforschung GmbH. Braungart EPEA is a leading innovation partner for institutions and companies and supports us in developing environmentally friendly and recyclable products. Owner Professor Michael Braungart is considered the founder of the cradle-to-cradle concept (C2C) and is a scientific expert on the topic of the circular economy.
For colleagues from our various locations, the workshop held at the headquarters, including the specialist lecture and the direct exchange with the expert and his team, was sometimes eye-opening. This was an important building block in 2024 to get the team on board and strategically aligned.
Rethinking sustainability: The Masterflex Group is expanding its business to include consulting for sustainable product development.
Sustainability does not end with the product. That is why we are now also offering consulting services - true to the motto: sharing knowledge, growing together. Whether it's the use of biodegradable or cradle-to-cradle materials, design or the development of sustainable hose solutions - we now also support our customers in making their products more environmentally friendly.
We focus on recyclable products and have already realized our first cradle-to-cradle-capable spiral hose and smooth hose. In line with our vision, we want to develop a circular economy for plastic hoses and connection systems with minimized resource consumption. Take the opportunity and become part of the development of circular hose solutions at an early stage. Instead of waiting until recyclable products become the norm, you can help us design individual solutions now and benefit from innovative added value.
Masterflex has developed a spiral hose made from biodegradable, cradle-to-cradle compliant polymer: The abrasion from this innovative hose is metabolized by microorganisms and thus provides nutrients for the environment - a valuable contribution to greater sustainability. The innovative hoses are gradually being made ready for series production and incorporated into our product portfolio.
We are currently testing several material options with a focus on Cradle-2-Cradle conformity. There are potential applications in the agricultural industry, for example, particularly in the smooth hose sector. This is because abrasion in hoses during seed feeding is a common, but often underestimated, wear factor in agricultural machinery. The constant friction of the seed against the inside of the hose produces fine abrasion particles. These particles cannot usually be broken down naturally today.
However, if the abrasion from a C2C hose can be decomposed by microorganisms, no harmful particles are released into the soil. This is precisely where our focus lies: the potential to make the world a better place and avoid microplastics in nature.
If you can't see the wood for the trees when it comes to developing sustainable connection components, we can help you. Our development department has learned a lot about C2C in the recent past. Whether biosphere, technosphere or ABC-X analyses, our collaboration with the Braungart EPEA has brought us a long way forward. The team is looking forward to implementing an optimization with you too!
